Papaipema impecuniosa, which was first described by Grote in 1881, is a species of moth in the family Noctuidae. It is commonly known by two common names: the aster borer moth and the impecunious borer. This moth species is found in eastern North America. Its distribution ranges from Nova Scotia in the north-east down to Georgia in the south-east, westward to Illinois, and northward to Wisconsin and Ontario. The larvae of Papaipema impecuniosa feed on plants in the genus Aster, as well as the species Helenium autumnale. The larvae bore into the stems and roots of their host plants to feed and develop.
