About Paonias myops Smith, 1797

This species, Paonias myops Smith, 1797, has a wingspan ranging from 52 to 69 millimeters. Adult individuals of this species are more nocturnal than most other sphingids. In eastern Canada, adult Paonias myops are active on the wing from June through September. Two generations emerge per year in New Jersey, while Louisiana has four generations per year. The species is distributed across an area stretching from southeastern Canada to Florida, extending westward nearly to the Pacific Coast. It has also been recorded in Mexico.
