About Panicum hirticaule J.Presl

Panicum hirticaule J.Presl is an annual bunchgrass that grows 10 to 80 centimeters tall. It produces hairy leaves that reach up to 15 centimeters in length. Its inflorescence is a branching panicle up to 12 centimeters long, with rounded spikelets located at the nodes. In North America, it is native to the Southwestern United States and Mexico, and its distribution extends across all of Central and South America. It grows in many types of habitat, including disturbed areas. There is evidence that Native Americans ate, cultivated, and possibly domesticated this grass.
