About Pancorius thorelli (Simon, 1899)
This species is scientifically named Pancorius thorelli (Simon, 1899). Simon’s original description is based on a male specimen that measures 8 to 10 millimeters in total body length. The cephalothorax ranges in color from brownish-chestnut to blackish, and is covered with reddish-brown pubescence along both sides, with this pubescence extending into the eye region. A quite broad, white hairy border runs along the edge of the cephalothorax. The abdomen is blackish, and has a very broad central white hairy stripe located near its apex. Above this white stripe, small black spots are arranged in two rows. This species is considered unusual for the Pancorius genus because its third pair of legs is much longer than its fourth pair. This leg length characteristic is similar to that seen in spiders belonging to the genus Pseudamycus. In terms of distribution, P. thorelli is endemic to Indonesia, where it has been recorded from the island of Sumatra. Additional observations of the species have also been made in Thailand, Malaysia, and Borneo.
