Its scientific name is Panacea prola, originally described by Doubleday in 1848. This species ranges from Costa Rica to southern Brazil, and it is most frequently found in the foothills of the eastern Peruvian Andes. Adults have a wingspan measuring 65 to 75 millimeters. The underside of its hindwings is bright red and has no markings.
