This species is currently referenced by the scientific name Palafoxia linearis (Cav.) Lag., and the description below originally refers to Palafoxia arida. Palafoxia arida is an annual herb that grows an erect, branching, glandular stem. Its leaves are covered in rough hairs, shaped linear or lance-shaped, and may grow longer than 10 centimeters. The inflorescence is an array that holds up to 40 flower heads. The cylindrical flower heads measure about 2 to 3 centimeters long, lined with long, pointed phyllaries, and bear up to 40 pink or white tubular disc florets. The fruit is an achene that measures over one centimeter long when including the pappus. Palafoxia arida is native to the Mojave Desert and Sonoran Desert ecoregions of California, the Southwestern United States, and northwestern Mexico.
