About Packera greenei (A.Gray) W.A.Weber & Á.Löve
Packera greenei, whose scientific name is (A.Gray) W.A.Weber & Á.Löve, is a species of flowering plant in the aster family, commonly known as flame ragwort. This plant is endemic to northern California, and it has only been recorded in the North Coast Ranges and southern Klamath Mountains. It grows in dry mountain scrub habitat, and is often found on serpentine soils. It is a perennial herb that grows from a rhizome, producing one single stem and a basal rosette of leaves. It typically reaches 20 to 30 centimeters in height. The basal leaves have oval blades up to 5 or 6 centimeters long, held on long petioles. The upper leaf surface is green, while the undersides are usually purple. Smaller leaves may grow further up the stem. The inflorescence holds one or more flower heads, each lined with wooly phyllaries that have green or red tips. Each flower head can hold up to 13 narrow ray florets, which are a distinctive orange or red-orange. These ray florets can grow close to 2 centimeters long.
