About Ozothamnus ledifolius (A.Cunn. ex DC.) Hook.fil.

Ozothamnus ledifolius (A.Cunn. ex DC.) Hook.fil. is a shrub in the family Asteraceae, and it is one of 54 species that belong to the genus Ozothamnus. English horticulturist and plant collector Harold Frederick Comber (1897–1969) introduced this species in 1929, after collecting its seeds from a height of 4000 ft on mountains in Tasmania that lie above 2500 ft. Ozothamnus ledifolius is an endemic species of Tasmania, where it forms alpine cushions within alpine heath vegetation. It is also found growing in rock gardens. It can be found near the summit-viewing area of Mt. Wellington in Hobart, and in the Derwent Valley at Mt. Field National Park along the Lake Belcher track, where it is known as mountain everlasting bush. For cultivation, Ozothamnus ledifolius has a high capacity for using photosynthetic light, which means it does not require low light conditions. It needs to be grown in a sunny, sheltered location where sunlight does not hit it directly from overhead. To grow well, it requires acidic, sandy, consistently moist, well-drained soil. Other perennial weeds can interfere with the growth of this plant, and it is also intolerant of phosphorus. Members of the daisy family are commonly grown as ornamental plants. Ozothamnus ledifolius is used as an ornamental plant for Mediterranean-style designs in coastal beds, slopes, and banks. It is also used as both informal and formal ornamental edging, and as a border plant. Trimming its stems encourages the plant to grow bushier.
