About Osbornia octodonta F.Muell.

Osbornia is a monotypic genus of mangrove belonging to the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. The only species in this genus is Osbornia octodonta, commonly called the myrtle mangrove. This species grows in coastal areas of Borneo, the Philippines, the Lesser Sunda Islands, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and northern Western Australia. It was first formally described in 1862 by Ferdinand von Mueller, who published the description in his work Fragmenta Phytographiæ Australiæ, based on plant material collected from Trinity Bay. It typically occurs on the landward side of mangrove forests.
