About Orthetrum trinacria (Selys, 1841)
Orthetrum trinacria, commonly known as the Long Skimmer, is a species of dragonfly belonging to the family Libellulidae. This species has been documented in Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ethiopia, Corsica (France), Gambia, Ghana, Sicily and Sardinia (Italy), Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe; its presence is considered possible in Burundi. It was first recorded in the Maltese Islands in 2003, and breeding activity was documented on the island of Gozo in 2004. It also breeds in the Murcia and Malaga Provinces of Southern Spain, and in the Canary Islands. Its natural habitats include rivers, shrub-dominated wetlands, swamps, freshwater lakes, intermittent freshwater lakes, freshwater marshes, and intermittent freshwater marshes.
