Orthetrum triangulare is a medium-sized dragonfly. It has a dark face, bluish eyes, and a black thorax marked with a broad apple green stripe on each side. On its abdomen, segments 1 through 2 and 8 through 10 are black, while the remaining segments are covered in an azure blue pruinescence. This species is typically found in marshes connected to hill streams, where it breeds.
