About Orthetrum pruinosum (Burmeister, 1839)

Orthetrum pruinosum is a medium-sized dragonfly. It has a dark thorax covered with a slight layer of purple pruinescence, and a purple-colored abdomen. Young males of this species have a red abdomen, just like the young males of Orthetrum chrysis. Females of Orthetrum pruinosum and Orthetrum chrysis look similar to one another. This dragonfly breeds in ponds, lakes, and slow-moving sluggish streams.
