Orthetrum abbotti Calvert, 1892 is a dragonfly species that belongs to the family Libellulidae. Its common names are little skimmer and Abbott's skimmer. This species occurs in most countries across sub-Saharan Africa, and also in Jordan and Yemen. Its preferred habitats are small marshy areas including seeps, marshy stream verges, and grassy puddles, located within grasslands and savannas. It is a small member of the Orthetrum genus, with a body length ranging from 33 to 38 millimeters and a wingspan ranging from 52 to 60 millimeters. Mature males of this species are pale blue, and the crest of their frons may be dark. The hook of the hamule is long and thin. Females and newly matured (teneral) males only have thin dark lines on the thorax.
