About Orsinome vethi (Hasselt, 1882)
Orsinome vethi is a medium-sized orb-weaver spider, with individuals reaching a body length of approximately 7 to 10 millimeters. Its cephalothorax is testaceous, or brownish-yellow, marked with three longitudinal black bands. The central of these bands is broader across the head region, and narrower across the thoracic region. The species displays sexual dimorphism in abdominal coloration and patterning. In females, the abdomen is grayish, with a distinct black dorsal pattern that may break into separate spots or bands. On the ventral surface of females, two longitudinal yellow lines typically run from the genital area to near the spinnerets. Males are generally smaller than females and have different abdominal patterning, with the dorsal surface of the abdomen often appearing more uniformly colored. The structure of the male pedipalps is diagnostic for this species: specific structural features of the cymbium and conductor allow it to be distinguished from related species. O. vethi has been recorded across a broad range of tropical and subtropical Asia. Confirmed locations of the species include India, southern China, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, and several Indonesian islands: Sumatra, Java, and Flores.
