About Orocrambus apicellus Zeller, 1863

Orocrambus apicellus, scientifically named Orocrambus apicellus Zeller, 1863, is a moth species belonging to the family Crambidae. It was first described by Philipp Christoph Zeller in 1863. This species is endemic to New Zealand, where it has been recorded across the North Island, South Island, Stewart Island, Chatham Islands, and Auckland Islands. Its preferred habitats are swampy areas and wet pastures. The wingspan of adult Orocrambus apicellus ranges from 22 to 26 millimetres. Adults are active on the wing between October and April each year, and the species produces two generations annually. The larvae of O. apicellus feed on Juncus polyanthemos and Juncus bufonius, and may also feed on Carex species.
