This plant has a self-supporting growth form, with simple, broad leaves, and individual plants can reach a height of 0.4 meters. It is a holoparasite that parasitizes species of the genus Artemisia. Its known distribution covers Europe, Southwest Asia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, northern India, Nepal, Mongolia, and China, where it occurs in Gansu, Hebei, Jilin, Nei Mongol, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Xinjiang, and Xizang.
