About Orientattus hongkong (Song, Xie, Zhu & Wu, 1997)
The jumping spider species Orientattus hongkong is currently only known from its female holotype specimen. The holotype female has a total body length of 5.40 mm. Its cephalothorax measures 2.45 mm long and 1.71 mm wide, while the abdomen measures 2.42 mm long and 1.84 mm wide. On the cephalothorax, the eye region is darker brown with black spots, and is covered in short white hairs and long brown hairs. The area behind the eye region is orange-yellow, with fine short brown hairs on its posterior and lateral sections. Several longitudinal stripes formed by brown spots run across the dorsal surface of the cephalothorax. The highest point of the cephalothorax occurs at its posterior third; it slopes gently forward from this point, and more steeply backward. The abdomen is greyish-yellow, with irregular greyish-black markings. It is covered in dense short white hairs and sparse long brown hairs. The ventral surface of the abdomen is greyish-yellow, with a faint blackish-brown longitudinal band running down its center. Blackish-brown spots on the abdomen's sides extend toward the center, creating the appearance of three longitudinal bands when viewed from above. This species has only been recorded from its type locality: Ho Pui, New Territories, Hong Kong. The female holotype was collected here on 21 August 1995 via pitfall traps set in a grassland habitat.
