About Oreocarya flavoculata A.Nelson

Oreocarya flavoculata A.Nelson is a flowering plant species in the Boraginaceae family, commonly known as roughseed cryptantha. It is native to the western United States, ranging from California to Montana, where it is common across many types of habitat. This species is a perennial herb that grows an unbranched stem reaching up to roughly 35 centimeters tall from a woody caudex. The entire plant is covered in soft bristly hairs. Its leaves, which are densely hairy to bristly, come in varying shapes and can grow up to 11 centimeters in length. The inflorescence forms a cylindrical cluster or rounded head of flowers, which elongates from the bottom up as fruits develop. Each individual flower is tubular, about one centimeter long, and topped with a five-lobed white corolla that has yellow appendages at its center.
