About Oreocarya confertiflora Greene

Oreocarya confertiflora Greene is an erect perennial herb that grows up to 44 centimetres (17 inches) tall. Its stems develop from a woody caudex, and form a rough clump of hairy, bristly gray-green leaves. The tops of the stems bear dense inflorescences of hairy yellow flowers. Each flower is tubular, with sepals wrapping around the tube beneath a five-lobed corolla that is either flat-faced or curled back. The fruit is a nutlet 3 to 4 millimetres (1⁄8 to 3⁄16 inch) wide, and there are typically four nutlets per fruit. This species is a common desert plant native to the southwestern United States, where it grows in dry, rocky areas.
