About Ordgarius hobsoni (O.Pickard-Cambridge, 1877)

Ordgarius hobsoni is a species of spider that belongs to the genus Ordgarius within the family Araneidae. It is one of several spider species commonly called bolas spiders, and can be found in India, Sri Lanka, China, and Japan. Unlike most other members of the Araneidae family, Ordgarius hobsoni does not spin a typical orb web. Instead, it hunts prey using a sticky silk "capture blob" attached to the end of a line, a structure called a "bolas" โ€“ this feature is where its common English name comes from.
