Opuntia auberi Pfeiff. grows as a tree, reaching heights of 3 to 8 meters or more. Its branches grow from the trunk at right angles. The trunk is cylindrical, brown, and bears glochidia. The cladodes (segmented branches) are blue-green to gray-green, growing as large segments up to 30 centimeters long. The flowers are pink, and grow up to 9 centimeters long.
