Opuntia anacantha Speg. is a shrubby cactus species. It grows to approximately 60 centimeters in height and 2.5 meters in width. Its growth habit is normally prostrate, and it can sometimes climb with the help of its adventitious roots. Its stem segments are dark green, flat, narrow, and elliptical in shape, measuring around 5 to 40 centimeters long and 3.5 to 7 centimeters wide. This cactus has small areolas, and produces orange or orange-yellow flowers that are 4 centimeters long.
