About Opisthoncus polyphemus (L.Koch, 1867)
Opisthoncus polyphemus, commonly known as the cyclops jumping spider, is a species of jumping spider belonging to the family Salticidae. This species is distributed across New Guinea, Australia, and New Zealand. Adult males measure 6โ7 mm (0.24โ0.28 in) in body length, while adult females are slightly larger at 8โ9 mm. Both sexes have pale yellow-orange bodies marked with white patterning. The spider's black eyes appear larger due to surrounding black circles, a feature that gave rise to both its specific epithet polyphemus and its common name cyclops jumping spider.
