About Opisthoncus nigrofemoratus (L.Koch, 1867)
Adults of Opisthoncus nigrofemoratus are relatively small, reaching a maximum length of 9mm. Juvenile bodies are often pale white with brownish features and black abdominal patterns. Mature males have black-marked femora, while female femora are brown. The abdomen typically shows rows of black blotches or paired spots, and some individuals only have faint markings. Males have larger, more swollen pedipalps that are used for mating, and often have a darker cephalothorax with distinct facial markings. Unlike Opisthoncus polyphemus, which frequently has three black dots across the width of the carapace, O. nigrofemoratus has a dark central band on the carapace.
