About Onthophagus vacca (Linnaeus, 1767)
Onthophagus vacca (Linnaeus, 1767) adults reach a body length of 7–13 millimetres (0.28–0.51 inches). The pronotum of this species is densely punctured. Its first pair of legs is powerful, with three teeth on the outer side, and is adapted for digging. The head, legs, and pronotum are black or dark green, while the elytra are yellowish with small green dots that often merge into longitudinal stripes. This species occurs across most of Southern Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa. It was introduced to Australia in 2014 to improve the processing of cattle dung.
