About Omalotheca sylvatica (L.) Sch.Bip. & F.W.Schultz

Omalotheca sylvatica (L.) Sch.Bip. & F.W.Schultz is a perennial herb that produces short runners. Individuals grow between 8 and 60 cm tall. This species has lanceolate, pointed leaves that measure 2 to 8 cm long and each leaf has a single vein. The upper surface of its leaves is hairless, while the lower surface is covered in dense, woolly hairs. Upper leaves along the stem are progressively shorter and narrower than lower leaves. The plant's flower heads are 6 mm long. The bracts surrounding these flower heads have green centers and dry, chaffy brown edges. The florets within the flower heads are pale brown. Its achenes are hairy, and are topped with reddish pappus hairs. Omalotheca sylvatica flowers from July through September.
