About Olethreutes palustrana (Lienig & Zeller, 1846)
Olethreutes palustrana is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae. This moth is distributed across most of Europe, excluding the Iberian Peninsula and the Balkan Peninsula. It can also be found in the eastern Palearctic realm and in North America. Its preferred habitat is heathland that contains scattered trees. The wingspan of Olethreutes palustrana measures 14–16 mm. The forewings have a whitish base color, with pale ferruginous-ochreous striping across their surface and reticulated patterning on the posterior section. The costa features distinct black markings. The basal patch has an obliquely sinuate outer edge. The central fascia narrows toward the dorsum, and bears a posterior projection below its midpoint. A triangular praetornal spot is present, and the subapical ferruginous fascia has an angulated anterior edge at its middle; this fascia is heavily marked with black, and this dark marking is most prominent in female individuals. The hindwings are a moderately dark grey shade. Adult Olethreutes palustrana are active in flight from the end of May through August. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of mosses, including species from the genus Dicranum.
