Common Name and Taxonomy

Olearia solandri, commonly called the coastal daisy-bush or coastal tree daisy, is a New Zealand coastal plant belonging to the Asteraceae family.

Growth Form

It has an upright, bushy growth form, with leaves measuring 5–8 mm in length.

Mature Size

Mature individuals of O. solandri can grow into a small tree reaching around four meters in height.

Collection History and Etymology

O. solandri was among the first approximately 350 species collected by Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander during James Cook's first voyage, and the species was named in honor of Daniel Solander.

Endemic Range

This species is endemic to New Zealand, found only in the North Island and the northern areas of the South Island.
