About Olearia lirata (Sims) Hutch.
Olearia lirata (Sims) Hutch. is a shrub that typically grows to a height of up to 4 metres (13 feet) and has greyish branchlets. Its leaves are arranged alternately along the branchlets; they are lance-shaped, 30โ150 mm (1.2โ5.9 in) long, 5โ25 mm (0.20โ0.98 in) wide, petiolate, and sometimes have wavy or toothed edges. The daisy-like flower heads are arranged in loose groups at the ends of branches, borne on a 5โ12 mm (0.20โ0.47 in) long peduncle, and measure 12โ25 mm (0.47โ0.98 in) in diameter. Each head has three to four rows of bracts forming a hemispherical involucre that is 3.5โ4.5 mm (0.14โ0.18 in) long. Ten to sixteen white ray florets, with ligules 4โ8 mm (0.16โ0.31 in) long, surround nine to fourteen cream-coloured to yellow disc florets. Flowering occurs between August and January. The fruit is a ribbed achene 1.5โ2.0 mm (0.059โ0.079 in) long, with a pappus 3.5โ4.5 mm (0.14โ0.18 in) long. This species grows in moist forest and scrub on the coast and tablelands of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, in eastern Victoria as far west as the Otway Range, and is widespread and common throughout Tasmania.
