About Olearia fragrantissima Petrie

Olearia fragrantissima Petrie is commonly called the fragrant tree daisy. Its scent is similar to that of ripe nectarines, apricots, peaches, or fruit salad. This plant flowers between October and February each year. It grows as a small tree reaching up to 12 metres (39 ft) in height, and has greyish-brown bark that peels in long strips. Olearia fragrantissima is found exclusively in New Zealand, with a sparse distribution along the eastern South Island. Its northernmost range extends to Banks Peninsula, where a population occurs at Decanter Bay. The species prefers lower coastal environments, and grows on the fringes of shrubland with a broken canopy.
