Oenothera albicaulis Fras. is a New World plant species belonging to the evening primrose family. It has several common names: prairie evening-primrose, white-stem evening-primrose, whitish evening primrose, and whitest evening primrose. This species is native to North America. In the United States, it occurs in Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah. In Mexico, it is found in the state of Chihuahua. The Zuni people have a traditional use for this plant: they rub chewed Oenothera albicaulis blossoms on the bodies of young girls, to help the girls dance well and to bring rain.
