About Oeneis tarpeia Pallas, 1771

Oeneis tarpeia (Pallas, 1771) is a species of butterfly belonging to the Nymphalidae family. Its distribution ranges from the Caucasus and Volga region, through Kazakhstan and southern Siberia, to the Amur region and Mongolia. This species was extirpated from Ukraine in the mid-twentieth century. Its natural habitat is made up of steppe-covered plains and foothills. The wingspan of adults measures 45 to 50 mm. Adult butterflies are active on the wing from June to July. The species' larvae feed on Poa avena and Festuca ovina.
