About Oeneis jutta Hübner, 1806
Oeneis jutta, commonly known as the Jutta Arctic or Baltic grayling, is a butterfly species belonging to the subfamily Satyrinae that has a Circumboreal distribution. It can be found in bogs and tundra across northern regions including northern Europe, the Baltic states, the Urals, Siberia, northern Kazakhstan, the Russian Far East, northern Mongolia, northeastern China, North Korea, and northern North America (specifically Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia). Its larvae feed on plants from the genera Carex and Eriophorum; they may also feed on plants from Glyceria, Molinia, and Juncus. For adult Oeneis jutta butterflies, Ledum palustre is the preferred nectar source. This species produces one new generation every one to two years, with the timing varying based on location.
