It can be found in bogs and tundra across northern regions including northern Europe, the Baltic states, the Urals, Siberia, northern Kazakhstan, the Russian Far East, northern Mongolia, northeastern China, North Korea, and northern North America (specifically Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia). Its larvae feed on plants from the genera Carex and Eriophorum; they may also feed on plants from Glyceria, Molinia, and Juncus.
