About Oedaleus australis Saussure, 1888
Oedaleus australis Saussure, 1888 females measure 25–35 mm in length, while males measure 20–30 mm in length. Their base body color is usually brown, though they may have scattered green patches. When viewed from the side, the head aligns along the straight contour of the thorax, and does not rise above the thorax line. When viewed from the side, an elongated triangular mark extending downward from the eye makes the eye appear elongated. On the folded forewing, large dark patches are located across the front half, with a faint darker smudge at the very wing tip. Hind wings range from very pale yellow to smoky yellow, with a dark tip and a dark band or smudge at the center. A pale, almost white 'X' shaped mark sits on the upper surface of the thorax. The shanks of the hind legs are typically straw-colored, and the rear tibia is not red. A throat peg is absent in this species. Two consistent distinguishing features are the dark triangle located beneath the eyes and the two dark spots on the pale yellow hind wing.
