About Oecanthus forbesi Titus, 1903
This species, Oecanthus forbesi, has a yellowish head with black markings on its first two antennal segments. Oecanthus forbesi is very similar in appearance to Oecanthus nigricornis. These two species can only be reliably distinguished from one another by the number of pulses per second (p/sec) in the mating song produced by males. Males produce their song through stridulation, and the song's pulse rate per second increases as temperature rises. One recorded male Oecanthus forbesi had a song pulse rate of 55 to 56 pulses per second when measured at an approximate temperature of 15 degrees Celsius (°C).
