About Ochlodes sylvanoides yuma (Edwards, 1874)
This subspecies, Ochlodes sylvanoides yuma, has orange wing uppersides marked with dark borders. Males display black androconia on their forewings, while females have two dark markings on their forewings. The undersides of the wings are variable in appearance, but are generally light brown with paler spots. Individuals have a wingspan ranging from 25 to 32 millimetres, or 0.98 to 1.26 inches. This woodland skipper occupies a broad variety of habitats, including woodlands, gardens, and other areas that support grasses. Larvae feed on multiple species in the Poaceae grass family, specifically Cynodon dactylon, and species from the genera Phalaris, Elymus, and Agropyron. Adult individuals feed on flower nectar, and are active from midsummer through fall.
