About Ochlodes agricola (Boisduval, 1852)

Ochlodes agricola, commonly known as the rural skipper, is a species of grass skipper belonging to the butterfly family Hesperiidae. This species is found in North America, specifically occurring in mid-elevation habitats and foothills. Adult rural skippers are ochre-orange in color. Males have diagonal black markings on their fore wings, while the underside of their hind wings is either solid orange or mottled with brown. Adult males of this species exhibit territorial behavior. The larvae of Ochlodes agricola feed on grasses, and are yellow with black lines and a black head. The MONA, also called Hodges, number assigned to this species is 4055.
