About Oceaniopteris gibba (Labill.) Gasper & Salino
Oceaniopteris gibba, commonly known as the miniature tree fern, has the scientific synonym Blechnum gibbum. It is a tropical fern species belonging to the family Blechnaceae. This species is native to New Caledonia and has been introduced to Fiji. It has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It reaches a mature height of 1 to 2 meters (3.3 to 6.6 feet). It produces a vertical woody structure commonly referred to as a trunk, which is actually a rhizome, and bears bright green fronds. This species cannot tolerate temperatures below 15 °C (59 °F), so it must be grown under glass year-round when cultivated in temperate zones. It is well-suited for cultivation in greenhouses or conservatories. It requires acidic soil and a partially shaded growing position.
