About Notocelia uddmanniana (Linnaeus, 1758)
Notocelia uddmanniana, commonly known as the bramble shoot moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. Its distribution ranges across Western Europe, the region surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, and extends north to the Caucasus, east to Kazakhstan, Iran, and the Chinese provinces of Guizhou and Tibet. This species has a wingspan of 15 to 20 mm. Its forewings are dilated, with a moderately arched costa. The base ground colour of the forewings is whitish-brownish, marked with fuscous striations. Posteriorly, the costa bears dark fuscous strigulae that are whitish. The angulated edge of the basal patch is darker than the surrounding area. A central fuscous fascia is indistinct on its anterior side, and ends in a large rounded-triangular dorsal spot that is dark reddish-fuscous with a whitish edge. There is an oblique fuscous fascia just before the apex, which barely reaches the costa. The extreme apex of the forewing is dark reddish-fuscous. The hindwings are solid grey. Fully developed larvae are dull reddish-brown, with a black head and black second thoracic plate. In Western Europe, adult moths fly from late June through late July. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of Rubus plant species.
