About Nordmannia ilicis (Esper, 1779)

This species, previously called Satyrium ilicis and currently classified as Nordmannia ilicis (Esper, 1779), has a wingspan of 32–36 mm. The base color of its wings is brownish. On females, the upperside of the forewings typically has large orange patches, while the underside of the hindwings has orange lunules with black borders. A series of irregular, broken white markings are found on the underside of both the forewings and hindwings. The hindwings have two short tails. Mature larvae are pale green and measure approximately 2 cm in length. This species occurs in Southern and Central Europe, South Western Siberia, Asia Minor, the Caucasus, Transcaucasia, Lebanon, and the Southern Urals. It lives in woods at elevations up to 1600 m.
