About Niphograpta albiguttalis Warren, 1889

Niphograpta is a genus of moths belonging to the family Crambidae. This genus includes just one species: the water hyacinth moth, whose scientific name is Niphograpta albiguttalis Warren, 1889. This moth is native to the Amazon basin. It has been intentionally introduced to regions outside its native range to control the spread of water hyacinth. Introduced populations exist in North America, where it occurs from Florida along the Gulf Coast to Louisiana and Texas; in Africa; and in Australia, where it is found in Queensland and New South Wales. This species has a wingspan of 18 to 21 millimetres, which equals 0.71 to 0.83 inches.
