About Ninia sebae (Duméril, Bibron & Duméril, 1854)

Ninia sebae, commonly called the redback coffee snake or red coffee snake, is a small terrestrial snake species that belongs to the Colubridae family. This species is native to southeastern Mexico and Central America, ranging south as far as Costa Rica. While it shares similarities in color and size with some venomous coral snakes, Ninia sebae is not venomous, and it rarely bites humans. The preferred natural habitats of N. sebae are forest and savanna, found at altitudes between sea level and 2,200 meters (7,200 feet). Ninia sebae reproduces via oviparity, meaning it lays eggs.
