About Nicrophorus nigrita (Mannerheim, 1843)
Nicrophorus nigrita, commonly called the black burying beetle, is a species of burying beetle first described by Mannerheim in 1843. This species is distributed along the west coast of North America, ranging from British Columbia in the north to Baja California in the south, and extending inland into Nevada. Compared to other Nearctic burying beetles, Nicrophorus nigrita lacks any markings on its elytra. Its body is mostly black, and it has distinct red-orange clubs on its antennae. Adult Nicrophorus nigrita measure between 12 and 28 millimetres (0.47–1.10 inches) in body length.
