About Nicotiana glutinosa L.
Nicotiana glutinosa L. is a tobacco plant species belonging to the Solanaceae family, and it is a dicotyledon. It is native to western South America, specifically including Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. This species is economically important for use in developing tobacco hybrids, and acts as a model organism for studying resistance to Tobacco mosaic virus in tobacco. It uses C3 photosynthesis and is a photoautotroph. When N. glutinosa is used in research on tobamoviruses, lesions that develop within the plant die back. This species serves as a host for Ageratum leaf curl virus, and is eaten by potato tuberworms. Its recognized synonyms are Blenocoes longiflora Raf., Nicotiana militaris L., and Tabacus viscidus Moench.
