About Neurothemis tullia (Drury, 1773)

Neurothemis tullia is a species of dragonfly. Males of this species have a black body with a pale yellow mid-dorsal carina on the thorax. For each wing, the apical half is transparent, while the basal half is opaque steely blue-black, with a milky white patch bordering this basal area towards the wing tip. Females differ notably from males in both body coloration, body markings, and wing markings. The female body is greenish yellow, with a bright yellow mid-dorsal carina of the thorax. In females, the base of each wing is amber yellow, followed by a blackish brown patch. The apices of all female wings are broadly opaque blackish brown, and the remaining middle halves of the wings are pale yellow. This dragonfly breeds in marshes, well-vegetated ponds, lakes, and rice fields. It typically perches very close to the ground, and its flight is very weak.
