About Neurothemis taiwanensis Seehausen & Dow, 2016

Description and habitat: Males of Neurothemis taiwanensis are entirely red, with transparent wing tips and black stripes that divide their abdomen. Their wings are dark-colored and have red veins. Females have thicker abdominal stripes, and may gradually change color between red and yellowish brown. Juvenile males can also show yellow-brown coloration. Adult individuals of this species range from 34 to 42 millimeters in total length. This dragonfly species is commonly found near still or running water bodies such as ponds, paddy fields, and streams, at elevations below 1500 meters.
