About Nessaea obrinus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Nessaea obrinus, commonly known as the obrina olivewing, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. Its range extends from Colombia and the Guianas to the mouth of the Amazon, south through central Bolivia and the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, and reaches as far as northern Argentina. Forewing length measures 25โ€“40 mm for males, and 26โ€“41 mm for females. Flight periods vary by subspecies: adults of the nominate subspecies (N. o. obrinus) fly in January and from July to November, adults of subspecies faventia fly year-round with peak activity from June to October, and adults of subspecies lesoudieri fly year-round with no observed peak in abundance.
