About Nerodia harteri (Trapido, 1941)

The Brazos water snake, scientifically named Nerodia harteri, reaches a total length of 16 to 32 inches (41 to 81 centimeters) including the tail. Its base body color ranges from brown to olive green. Two rows of spots run along each side of its back, and it has a pink or orange underside with dark spots running along each side. This species is only found in the Brazos River system located in Central Texas. Its preferred habitat is rocky areas alongside the Brazos River.
