About Neptis miah Moore, 1857

Neptis miah, commonly known as the small yellow sailer, is a nymphalid butterfly. Its distribution spans India, Bhutan, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Malaysia, and extends eastward to western China, as well as the Chinese regions of Hainan and Guangdong. Seven subspecies of Neptis miah have been identified to date. The subspecies found in Guangdong is classified as N. miah disopa Swinhoe, while the subspecies found in Hainan is classified as N. miah nolana Druce. The entire Neptini tribe is a taxonomically challenging group, with many species sharing very similar appearances. It is possible that a small number of unrecorded species in this group fly in Hong Kong, and these unrecorded species may be misidentified as the common N. hordonia, or other brownish Neptis species such as N. clinia Moore.
