About Neoscona triangula (Keyserling, 1864)
Neoscona triangula (Keyserling, 1864) is known from both male and female individuals. It is a large spider species, with a body length ranging from 9 to 17 mm. This species has a very wide global distribution, recorded from Cape Verde through Africa to India. Across South Africa, it has been recorded in all nine provinces, occurring at altitudes between 7 and 1,781 m above sea level, and is present in more than 20 protected areas. This large orb-weaving spider builds orb-webs in vegetation at night, removes the webs early each morning, and rests on plants during the day. It is very common in gardens during the summer. It has been sampled from six South African biomes: Forest, Grassland, Indian Ocean Coastal Belt, Nama Karoo, Savanna, and Thicket. It has also been sampled from agricultural areas including avocado, macadamia, and pecan orchards, as well as onion, sorghum, and tomato fields. One specimen was collected from Burkea africana in Nylsvley Nature Reserve.
